[physical education 101]

Who: transfer students
When: July 1̷̝̤̳̙̫̭̻̝͓̄̇̾̀̕͝9̸̙̱̹͍̮̈́́̀̅͛̐̔̋ 20
Where: the. . . gymnasium?

[The school is empty. The school is quiet. The only sound that cuts through the silence is the soft ticking of the hallway clocks that mark the passing of each second.]

[. . .]

[At least. . . until a stiff breeze whips through the classrooms, scattering dirty papers and jerking the curtains aside. The clock strikes 6:00 a.m.]

[The school bell chimes.]

[ She's completely right about that. So right, in fact, that Mizi ends up letting out a quiet breath, quiet but amused. This girl gets it. ]

It wouldn't surprise me... if this was just for their entertainment.

[ There doesn't seem to be any bigger obvious reason why they need them here — whether for food, materials, or something like that. That's where her mind goes to first. ]

Did you recognize it? The "monster." It looked so much like a human, but huge...

[Something about the idea that it's all just for the entertainment of the deeply haunted things taking up residence here makes it feel somehow worse to her. A little seed of fear that could—maybe, potentially—blossom into hopelessness. Because if there is a reason they've all been specifically chosen to be here, then at least there might be something logical to puzzle out about all this. Something to deny their tormentors, something to strive to solve that might give them an inkling of how to get out of this.

Not that it still isn't possible if this is all just a sick game to them. But it just makes it feel deeply unfair. As if life wasn't hard enough as it is.

If she closes her eyes, she can still see that thing rushing for the window of that classroom. Practically sends a chill down her spine. Her gaze lowers to the floor and she shakes her head.]

Nah. Never seen it before. Somehow it looking kinda human makes it even freakier, if I'm being honest. Kinda wonder... what if it was human once?

[She wants to say it seems outlandish, but, well. All of this does.]

[ On that, they agree. The humanity of it had been what was frightening, not the scale or its bloodshot eyes, at least to Mizi. Her brow furrows deeper at the implication that it could've been human once, her kneejerk reaction quite unsettling. ]

Maybe it's been experimented on...

[ Forced to grow large? Or trained to be hostile? Unfamiliar with the idea of ghosts and spirits, that's the explanation she conjures to make the puzzle pieces fit. She's sure any person that was tampered with to that extent would go mad, too, though she's not sure what that has to do with the rest of the details of their captivity. ]

Or... maybe it's only partially human.

[Her own expression darkens considerably at the thought of human experimentation. That's skirting awfully close to SERN territory, and she hates to even consider it. So much of it doesn't add up, though.]

It's bad news either way.

[Whatever it is, it's clearly hostile. And, as the both seem to be in agreement on, it's likely still out there.]

We'll have to figure out a way to defend against it. I don't want to let it get the drop on us again.
