[The school is empty. The school is quiet. The only sound that cuts through the silence is the soft ticking of the hallway clocks that mark the passing of each second.]

[At least. . . until a stiff breeze whips through the classrooms, scattering dirty papers and jerking the curtains aside. The clock strikes 6:00 a.m.]
[The school bell chimes.]

Our strategy was sound, except when it was not. By the time we focused again on items that were not part of that awful thing's influence, it was too late.

We gave aliases instead of our true names. I suggested it as an experiment. It verified one thing, at the very least: the entities in this place will go to devious lengths to obtain them, and violent ones when they do not.
