[The school is empty. The school is quiet. The only sound that cuts through the silence is the soft ticking of the hallway clocks that mark the passing of each second.]

[At least. . . until a stiff breeze whips through the classrooms, scattering dirty papers and jerking the curtains aside. The clock strikes 6:00 a.m.]

[This girl here isn't looking any better, even in her new uniform. Her hands are bloodied and there's dried blood that's caked her ears...

And she didn't even get a sticker :( She's sat up, arms around her knees, exhausted.]

[ At some point his teammates helped bandage him up with some shreds of fabric from his jacket. He steps over and offers her a hand. ]

[She looks at the offered hand. After a few seconds, Fio nods.]

It would be nice.

[She accepts it and tries to push herself up with her opposite hand.]

[ His hand is cold but not unpleasantly so. ]

Of course. You're not badly hurt, are you?

[The coolness of his hand reminds her something, but of what, she can't recall in the moment.

(The ocean was cold when she plunged into it from the sky.)]

Well... [There's a bitter chuckle.] I'm embarrassed to be injured to this extent. I'm shaken, but I can walk.

I think that's about where we all are. Talk about a rude awakening.

I feel like we're being toyed with. We failed to find our key so I truly thought that we were going to...

Die? Yeah, I did too for a second.

[ This coming from the guy who normally can't die. ]

I would hazard a guess, but... [She looks around to see if anyone else was majorly injured or at least look like they went through it.]

It may seem many if not all of us have chosen to withhold or names. Do I assume correctly in your case as well, sir?

[reapoman]

That's right. If everyone else here is smart, they'll do the same. For something to drag this many people here at once, it has to be powerful.

I don't think I've ever encountered magic or a being that derived some advantage of having someone's true name.

... I wonder if commonly used nicknames count?

[At first she thought it would be fine, but "Fio" is still part of "Fiorella" which is part of an even bigger whole. It was still "her."]

We didn't even have time to think of new ones...

If it's common for you to use it, then don't. Pick something entirely new that isn't tied to you already. You'll be safer that way.
