[if anyone happens into the cafeteria this day, they'll likely find a pile of mildly spicy meat handpies, some noodle dishes, some rice, and mooncakes. all of them with some levels of spice to them because in this house, we indulge in our spices until we're sent back home to places where spice is expensive af.

or at least, that's the sentiment of the cook.

who seems to be absent from the cafeteria.

... oh, no. That... it showed up after Miss Star and I investigated the auditorium.

It... showed up? And now you're taking it around with you?

[ Kind of a strange way of dealing with it, but she wouldn't necessarily expect anything different from Mr. Smith. ]

Well. I just think that it would be a shame if it was kept in one spot all the time.

[picking up the puppet's strings and directing it to walk.]

It's a marionette. So it's meant to be moved around.

[makes the puppet give her a gentlemanly bow]

[ She laughs, taking a moment to study the little guy. Somehow it's less creepy when Mr. Smith is manipulating it. ]

So you're a puppeteer on top of everything else?

[presgarddihellis]

I am, actually.

Marionettist, specifically. Though... my marionettes aren't made of wood like this one.

I can't say I would know the difference...

This kind of puppet is a marionette.

[bounces the puppet around.]

Movements dictated by the strings. Other ways of manipulating puppets can involve other mechanisms and the like.

That makes sense. [ Tifa watches the movement of the strings for a few seconds. ] I wonder what they were trying to tell you and Ms. Star, though... I guess that we're all just actors in their play?

[ That they have no control, but are being made to dance on their invisible strings? ]

I think that spirit might be a bit lonely.

[ Huh. That's one interpretation. Tifa glances from the marionette back to Mr. Smith. ]

... The one who made these?

[there may or may not be some projection going on but also, marionettist feelios.]

Mm... they mostly seem to want people to perform on the stage for them.

I imagine that if they wanted to use marionettes as a doll to possess, then they would appreciate it if they weren't just locked up all the time.

But, that's only assuming that such a thing is what they were aiming for in the first place. Still, it's better to be accommodating than not, I think.

W-wait. You think that the ghost might possess these things?

[ Not just a doll, but a possessed doll? Mr. Smith is acting so normal about this, but it's hard for Tifa not to shiver. ]

It's a possibility, but I haven't seen any indication that that's been the case, yet.
