[feeling homesick?]
Who: the student body
When: October 9
Where: anywhere outside!
What: set fire to the rain
Warnings: some people might get chewed on by a fox
[On the morning of October 9th, a bright, almost ethereal glow flares from the rooftop]
[It lasts but a few seconds and can be seen from anywhere outside, as well as through the windows of the school. though it dissipates quickly, small bursts of light remain scattered in the sky, slowly floating down to the earth below. they are. . .]
[. . . small tongues of blue fire? they dance in the air like playful sprites, wiggling this way and that, inviting you closer with their whimsical shimmies. should you get too close to these sprites, you will hear a familiar voice echoing in your head. it is the voice of someone very close to you! someone you cared for. someone you once loved very, very much. someone you miss. someone you would do anything to see again]
[touch these tongues of blue flame, and that same person will appear before you, smiling with their hand extended. you will feel compelled to take it, almost as if you are in a trance. almost as if you cannot resist]
[the apparitions of your loved ones will attempt to guide you into the forest. characters who touch the flames will be reduced to a dreamlike state and compelled to follow them. this trance can be broken by another character with either a) a solid punch/stab/any kind of inflicted pain or b) a kiss. this knowledge is not known ICly, so you better get to experimenting!! if the trance is broken, the apparition will vanish in a whirlwind of blue fire with an irritated shriek, leaving nothing behind but a sense of loss and forlorn longing in the character who was affected]
[should a character's trance not be broken before they reach the woods. . . well. the apparition of their loved one will smile wickedly as it sprouts blue fox ears and three fluffy, blue tails at its back. its eyes will turn white, its teeth sharp, as its entire body shifts and morphs into a four-legged kitsune with blue fur and white-socked feet. the trance will be broken right as it attacks, as it attempts to sink teeth into its victim's neck and tear them limb from limb. whoops! looks like you got suckered into a miniboss fight!]
[the kitsune are pretty quick on their feet! they are difficult to hit, and their bites hurt, leaving an icy-hot sensation crawling across the skin at the site of the wound. they cannot be killed, but they can be injured with typical weapons (their blood oozes dark black), and they tend to balk when faced with more than one opponent. if you have a friend with you to fend them off, they are more likely to flee than not, curling up into balls of fur and popping out of existence with a bright blue spark of heat. the buddy system will be invaluable here!]

A. General Zuo Xuanliao
[ After Zuo Le's hand skims curiously across the flame, the fire will twist and take the shape of a stern looking man who bears a striking resemblance to the young man in front of him. Whatever is said at first is too quiet to hear, but if you get closer you might catch the final-- ]
I understand...
[ From Zuo Le, before he begins to slowly trail after the figure towards the woods. ]
B. The Real Ji
[ Maybe instead of reaching towards the fire with a kind of wonder, Zuo Le instead reaches out to it with concern and trepidation on his face. When the fire swirls into a form it is a young man with a long, scaled tail, and delicate looking branching horns. He smiles at Zuo Le, but there's a calculating and shrewd look in his eyes, and Zuo Le's hand immediately moves to his sword.
If you approach what you'll hear is-- ]
I won't let you.
[ Before the draconic figure smiles wider and shrugs, beckoning Zuo Le towards him with one elegant crook of his finger, and begins to move towards the woods, Zuo Le hot on his heels. ]
II. SOMEONE ELSE TOUCHES THE FLAME
[ Call it a lesson hard learned on his part, but now that Zuo Le knows what the flames are, he's a lot more ready to avoid them himself. That doesn't mean everyone else is in the same degree of know though.
As he moves about the grounds, if he sees someone reaching up towards one he'll call out with a-- ]
Wait!
[ Inevitably almost always too late to actually stop it. ]
I-A
No, this is... something that looks like someone.
It's not until they begin to move in the direction of that Nei is spurred into action, hurriedly making her way over. ]
Hey! Where are you going?! The woods are dangerous! And who— [ her gaze flits to the stern, older man ] Is that?!

All Yuma can do is stare at her face with a slack jaw as she looks him up, down, and then back up. She beams, her disposition impossibly bright against the school's dreary backdrop, and he finds himself unable to tear his gaze away.
Eventually, she extends a hand with her fingers splayed out in invitation, her palm upturned. She continues to chatter away, and Yuma's gaze drops to the ground between them—but she's patient, simply sharing some more words with him in the ensuing silence.
When his head raises after a moment of hesitation, so, too, does his hand to lay over hers. She wraps her fingers around him, then pivots on her heels with a warm grin thrown over a shoulder, pointing them toward the woods. Yuma's unfocused eyes, however, are fixed on her and her alone as he awkwardly shadows her exuberant steps.]

[Girl is in the hallways, leaning against a wall, with her arms crossed. She's talking to a woman with white hair. She's wearing a pink kin'un tracksuit to match Girl's.]
So - yeah, I'm going by "Girl" now, I guess. Names are really important here, if somebody knows your real name, it's super dangerous. Like - really really old, fae magic-type shit, y'know?
[The woman laughs into her hand, giving Girl a slightly cock-eyed look.]
"I believe you about the gravity of the situation, but I think we can stretch our creative muscles a bit more than that. Are you really making all your friends call you 'Girl'?"
[Girl huffs.]
Dude, it's like, not even a thing. Everybody's names are so dumb, I'm so glad I picked the most generic thing I could think of.
"Well, in that case, I guess it's only appropriate if I go by 'Woman', isn't it?"
[Girl sputters a little awkwardly.]
Hey -- are you makin' fun of me?
['Woman' just chuckles into her hand again and pets the top of Girl's head. Girl ducks her head and...actually smiles.]
[B - Closed until you've done a thread with A]
[So, yeah, "Woman" wasn't real. Shocker. It was one of the flames. You eventually got some sense into Girl somehow and the apparition, annoyed that its cover was blown, fucked off. That part isn't that surprising. The part that probably is really surprising is that Girl was really mad at you! Some people, so thankless, huh?
Yeah, she's going and looking for another flame on purpose.
She eventually finds one. She briefly hesitates, as if she knows this is a bad idea. But the voice in her head - that voice telling her they can be together again, she just has to reach out - it's too much. She grabs the flame with both hands.
And the Woman appears again, smiling fondly and offering a hand, which Girl takes.]
[Maybe you see them leaving the school. Maybe you're a teammate of Girl's and you just notice that she's not in the dorm and she's not anywhere else to be found and that means she's probably doing something real stupid.]
[Either way, she's heading towards the forest with the Woman, hand-in-hand.]
A of course

[ Her longing getting the best of her, Nei touches one of the blue flames, hearing from it a voice she never thought she would again hear outside of her best dreams and her worst nightmares alike. She knows whatever this is could never even hope to be like a real person, and yet, hearing that voice, she just couldn't possibly ignore it, either...
The woman that appears in place of the flame smiles softly at Nei, her hand outstretched:
"Darling... your father and I we thought we'd lost you." ]
I'm— I'm right here— mom...!
[ With her knees giving out from under her, Nei stays in place for a while, and the apparition of her mother's hand rests over the young lady's head, stroking gently. ]
2. fighting
[ There's another person whom Nei would unquestionably be led into the woods by, though for a different reason entirely. Whether you've been led here by an apparition of your own (double miniboss fight?!), or were simply seeking to help another, here Nei is in a clearing, standing before young man with her katana drawn. ]
You... You just keep showing up, don't you? Will you let me actually kill you this time, I wonder?
[ She looses a laugh that is in no way brought on by an alleged curse on Yakuyoke (citation needed). ]
1!
Jiji has never seen the woman that now holds Nei before among the student body, and while anyone might be able to show up whenever, she's not in uniform either. There's also something that looks off about her, something that has Evil Eye's hackles raising, eager for a fight — even more than usual.
Before he can even think better of it, Jiji dashes over to the pair, unwilling to let something like what happened at the shed happen to Nei again. Maybe she was fine, but her teammates had been so worried — she wouldn't want them to worry again. He's sure. ]

She doesn't seem to notice except to reach up sometimes to untangle Tuxie from her hair. Eowyn's "brother" reaches for the skeleton too as if to shoo it away, but it's staying far away from him.]

At first it seems nothing is going to follow that strange occurrence, but then she spots wisps of blue flame that dance down from the sky.
One floats near to her, and then a voice sound in her ear.
And it's not just any voice.
Kind of reminds me of that night... on the water tower. Looking up at the stars.
Tifa gasps, eyes going wide. Cloud sounds calm, almost warm. Like he's in a good mood. She hasn't heard his voice in months, and it hits her straight in the chest. She's missed him, she's worried about him every day, and now...
She reaches out for the flame that zigzags in front of her vision like a slowly falling leaf, and then there he is, extending a hand out to her. It should make her suspicious, but she's just so relieved to see him again. ]
Cloud?!
[ It's not like she's any stranger to visions of people that aren't actually there, due to Cloud himself and what he'd suffered, and yet none of that occurs to her now. She races forward and grips his hand, maybe a little too tight. ]
You're really here?!
[ He lets out a little scoff and shakes his head back and forth, both shoulders lifting into his usual shrug. Sorry I kept you waiting. But we can get outta here now.
Soon enough, Tifa can be spotted dutifully following this man with blond, spiky hair toward the woods... ]

He has, in fact, wove through the flames like a man trying to circumvent touching something fatal, straddling the line between wanting to avoid them and too curious to remain indoors. Good thing, too, for during his wanderings, he spies...
Is that Ms Tiger Lily? And someone else he does not recognize, but not donned in any of their school colors, leading her to the forest...]

[ sense catches up to her. she gasps roughly, a spasm of horror across her face. too late to take the name back, but he merely laughs—it's an infinitely gentle laugh—and pats her hand he's holding.
gravely, he says, Umnitsa. This is true; yes... it is. But could death be enough to keep me from you when you are needing helping? I come to guide you home. It is spirits which bring you here, and so why not spirit which leads you back? Come with me. Come, come. I will show you.

three options but they all start the same way

"Shidi. I came back for you."
[ the man speaks softly. gently. ]
"Let's go together."
[ automatically, venomously, Kongxu spits back ]
Who could trust you? With your track record?

You cannot fail again. You cannot die again! You don't get another chance! There won't be a next time! Do you understand?!
[ the man's face blossoms with his smile, the corners of his eyes crinkling with incredible relief, with joy. Kongxu stares at him as if he can't look anywhere else and looks like he might cry.
they walk towards the woods. with each step, they pick up speed. ]
