[if anyone happens into the cafeteria this day, they'll likely find a pile of mildly spicy meat handpies, some noodle dishes, some rice, and mooncakes. all of them with some levels of spice to them because in this house, we indulge in our spices until we're sent back home to places where spice is expensive af.

or at least, that's the sentiment of the cook.

who seems to be absent from the cafeteria.

anyway, free hot foods during this mid-autumn day with its chill winds and cooling temperatures and suspiciously flickering lights and whispers in familiar, desperately missed voices. or maybe that's just the wind.]

[Klein can be found on the front steps of the school, munching on some Desi meat pies he's shoves into a brown bag as he stares out in the direction of the nearby fields and forest.

sure seems like he's debating something or other.

also a bit distracted even from his own thoughts as he tilts his head toward some perceived sound.

there's also a wooden marionette puppet that looks remarkably like himself sitting next to him, its strings all neatly coiled underneath it.]

[after at least two incidents of a fake brother trying to lure her into the woods, Eliza is spending the afternoon INDOORS. fuck those foxes!

she’s not a spice fan and she doesn’t seem that hungry, she seems really subdued in fact, but she’s putting a bite of each kind of food on a plate. someone worked hard on this, so she’ll try it '^' ]

[tilts his head to look to her, faintly amused.]

Funny. Most people would say it's creepy keeping that around.

[he will put his bag of Desi pies aside to help her with situating her hands on the paddles the strings are attached to.]

It's not. Also. My marionettes actually come from far more disturbing methods. So perhaps my perspective's a bit skewed.

Yes, it's very irksome. I would recommend tuning it out as best you can.

Generally, I'm fairly decent at that.

[but clearly whoever he's hearing is difficult to simply ignore. a kind of self-deprecating smile crossing his face.]

But then, sometimes, it's like I should be responding. "Ah, Captain, did you see? I saved it again. Though it was some time ago now. Did you see?"

It's rather absurd. And it makes me a little upset.

And all of mine are dead animal skeletons. So neither of our perspectives are that normal— oh, no, wait. Left hand legs. This is tricky!

And mine aren't exclusive to animals. But I do make sure that such treatment is thoroughly deserved, first.

I haven't found yet if I can puppet anyone here like we talked about. But I'm pretty sure I could if I had enough power back, especially if I could get in contact with their bones. Human skeletons are the easiest to manipulate since, like, you don't need to study to know how those move. You have one already.

[trying to make the wooden puppet bow like a gentleman]

he... had meant to approach dimitri to ask about sparring again, but he's taken aback by the younger man suddenly talking to no one.

That is true. It's pretty intuitive.

[watching the marionette move in its jerky motions as she figures that out, but also. tilting his head again and letting his eyes slide to the side like he's just heard something. or someone.]

[leaning around to follow his look when she glances up and finds he's distracted from the COOL TRICK* the marionette is doing

* not moving its legs and arms at the same time]

[there's maybe a flicker of light, that hint of foxfire, out in the field, but he doesn't seem to be moving toward it.]
