[a little ice breaker]
Who: everyone!
When: throughout the week of August 10
Where: everywhere
What: a little mischief
Warnings: nada!
[On August 10th, everyone wakes up to find a series of red yarn strung across the entire school. They dangle from the hallway ceilings, from the classroom door frames, even across some of the trees and bleachers outside. The ones that hang within reach feel warm to the touch! They can be pulled down and removed with little consequence.]
[However, it is not the decorative threads you should be worried about. Throughout the week, any two characters who come in close proximity with each other (they do not have to touch!) may suddenly find themselves tied together with the exact same red thread. If you're lucky, it will only link you via your wrists. If you're unlucky, it might bind you via your ankles, or even wrap you both up back-to-back like a pair of captives. Hm! Concerning!!]
[Any time two characters are tied together, a playful voice echoes in their minds: Hehe. Share a secret. . .?]
[To be released, both characters must share a secret with each other! Something that the other one doesn't know! It should be something significant; the playful threads will not let you go unless it is. But the level of significance may vary from something light to something that is not, so ultimately it is player's choice as to what secrets count and which do not!]
[. . . anyway, for anyone who wants to avoid getting caught, the nurse's office and dorm rooms are completely clear! The threads are also fickle; it is possible for two characters to hang out without being tied up together, if you don't want to play with this effect. Otherwise, go forth and mingle with some optional forced bonding!!]

And blinking up at him. Right, obviously he knows what he's feeling, just not the why behind it. Mark takes a second, because this isβ There's a lot going on here, confusion and a hint of anger joining his emotions. ]
No. I thought I killed him β I meant that literally, when I said he didn't have a face anymore. And I tore myself up for like a year, but then he came back and, [ deep, angry breath, ] I regret that I didn't kill him. So many more people would still be alive if I had. So I'm never letting anything like that happen again.
[ this is fine? If nothing else, the thread loosening from his wrist probably makes it fine. ]

...I do not envy you. To be given the power to make such choices, and yet to still see the consequences not play out as you'd expect.
[To think you've made the right choice (even if it was a violent one, in this case), only to find it wasn't enough. He's been there before, too, but obviously not to this degree.]
To learn so young that not all moral decisions are always the correct ones, and vice versa.
[Though perhaps that wisdom is better learnt earlier than not, but it feels like... the sort of heavy thing a teen should not have to become so wise to, so quickly. It must be so difficult, being a superhero.]

... Thank you. [ His voice comes out quiet, but he hasn't pulled his hand away yet; Mr. Adair should know he means the thanks with every syllable, every letter. ] I don't think I've ever heard someone sum it up so succinctly before...
[ A beat. Still without the presence of mind to withdraw his hand, but he does feel a degree lighter now. And also plainly, nakedly sincere. ]
It's something I'm always going to have to deal with. Probably more so here, but it's nice to know there are people here I can rely on. Trust.
[ You, really, after this moment. If this isn't friendship, then maybe this is mentorship.
Sure feels like friendship to Mark though. ]

Holmes withdraws his hand as Mr Hiro speaks, slowly slotting it into his trouser pocket. There is an evident appreciation in his tone, and he cannot help but wonder if no one else has said as much to him before βΒ or instead, not very many adults, or "normal" people with no powers, he imagines.
With a bit of sincerity, too:]
Yes. You are surrounded by the viewpoints of many, who all share a desire to protect those close to them. Among all these "students", they may help inform your more difficult decisions by offering their own advice. I am sure your homeroom would more than agree.
That said... Though I am more a man of logic and analysis and sometimes flounder when it comes to matters of the heart, you are always welcome to seek counsel from myself. If you ever need it, I will listen.

A beat, as he actually has to digest all of that. He's so well-spoken. So proper. So... ]
I will.
[ kind. A smile. ]
I'm still going to listen to myself. And the rest of Shiawase. But I know my weaknesses, and I'm not going to deny that thinking things through is one of them. So... if you don't mind a knock outside Kin'un's door every now and then, I'd like to take you up on that.

You'll be more than welcome, of course.
[Rocks on his heels.]
Well, then. Seems we are free of our so-called shackles. Thank you for bearing with me, Mr Hiro.

[ It doesn't seem like he was the one who was bearing with Mr. Adair β between Mark's curse and his quizzing and his secret taking a darker turn, it feels more like the opposite β but he isn't going to object. Not after how this turned out... kind of okay? Kind of good, actually.
In a way, he's grateful for it. ]
Any time. Really β I mean that.
