[a little ice breaker]
Who: everyone!
When: throughout the week of August 10
Where: everywhere
What: a little mischief
Warnings: nada!
[On August 10th, everyone wakes up to find a series of red yarn strung across the entire school. They dangle from the hallway ceilings, from the classroom door frames, even across some of the trees and bleachers outside. The ones that hang within reach feel warm to the touch! They can be pulled down and removed with little consequence.]
[However, it is not the decorative threads you should be worried about. Throughout the week, any two characters who come in close proximity with each other (they do not have to touch!) may suddenly find themselves tied together with the exact same red thread. If you're lucky, it will only link you via your wrists. If you're unlucky, it might bind you via your ankles, or even wrap you both up back-to-back like a pair of captives. Hm! Concerning!!]
[Any time two characters are tied together, a playful voice echoes in their minds: Hehe. Share a secret. . .?]
[To be released, both characters must share a secret with each other! Something that the other one doesn't know! It should be something significant; the playful threads will not let you go unless it is. But the level of significance may vary from something light to something that is not, so ultimately it is player's choice as to what secrets count and which do not!]
[. . . anyway, for anyone who wants to avoid getting caught, the nurse's office and dorm rooms are completely clear! The threads are also fickle; it is possible for two characters to hang out without being tied up together, if you don't want to play with this effect. Otherwise, go forth and mingle with some optional forced bonding!!]

... Huh, okay. So you were like, a pretty boy detective celebrity. And you leaned into that image and pretended you liked sweets so the girls would think you were charming and cute.
[There isn't any judgment in her tone, for once, actually. I mean, she does the same thing in her own way, right?]
Makes sense. So it's my turn, right...?
[Hmmm...]
I entered my first art competition to spite my dad.

still. he laughs without humor. ]
That’s me. [ he says, tasting some self-deprecation for once. at least she isn’t judging.
as for herself- he laughs, this time with real humor. ]
That is an excellent reason. I hope he was sufficiently spited.

...]
My best friend back home's an idol. I saw the way people tried to pigeonhole her once she got popular. So. [A shrug.] I get it.
[... Damn detectives, though. Always following up with pertinent questions.
She frowns. She wishes.]
No. He wasn't. He told me I was too talentless to make it doing art, and I didn't place in the competition.
no subject
he eyes her before stubbornly deciding on: ]
It’s what I wanted.
[ and then she’s frowning and he frowns too at the very idea of her father- though he seems unsurprised. ]
Asshole. [ he says rudely and easily. ] What does he know about art? Your cat is fine.
no subject
That's fine. Doesn't mean people should be dicks about it just because you're in the spotlight.
[It's how she's always felt about Airi, and it may as well apply to him.
But she huffs out a laugh at his blunt analysis, amused and rueful and pained.]
... Yeah. I mean. You're right about him being an asshole.
[A slow breath in.]
He's a famous artist. Has his own galleries and showings. He's a household name for people who like art.
[The unfortunate, heavy implication is, therefore, that he was right.]
no subject
That’s even worse. Instead of helping encourage your shared interests, he acted like that.
[ a long drawn out sigh. ]
Useless. You should forget him. …Though I know it’s not that easy.
no subject
Guess you've probably been through something similar then. [A sigh.]
What is with all of these asshole dads...
[SO MANY DADDY ISSUES IN THIS SCHOOL.]
Anyway, yeah, I... decided I was going to pursue art anyway. He was right that time, but I don't care. I have to just keep trying until he's not right anymore.
no subject
My father is-
[ he drops himself. takes a deep breathe. ]
…Nevermind. I… think you have the right of it. Keep trying and make him eat his words.
no subject
... That bad, huh?
[Damn.]
You already shared a secret, so you don't have to talk about it.
[a bit of a shrug.]
But yeah. That's the plan. Make him eat his words, and live my life the way I want to.
no subject
He’s a piece of shit who left my pregnant mother to suffer with me on her own. [ a pause, as if less important, ] Worked to bring the country to its knees under him. He’s…
[ another deep breathe, even as a dark expression crossed his face.
it’s fine. he’s an oversharer. but her own information is more interesting. ]
Good luck. [ he says, seriously. ]
no subject
She blinks at that, eyes wide for a moment.]
Oh, he's a real bastard politician, huh?
[She knows they're real, but wow...]
... Thanks, though. I hope your garbage dad gets his comeuppance.
no subject
Ah… that obvious? [ but then she’s offering… more hopes and he frowns. ]
He… he’s been stopped, yes.
[ sounds complicated… ]
no subject
Sounds complicated, but I'm glad to hear that, at least. Guys like that shouldn't be allowed to think they can do whatever they want and get away with it.
It disgusts me.
no subject
And your father? [ he can't help but ask. ] Did he ever get over himself?
no subject
She tucks that thought away, but lets him change the subject.]
He called me a talentless hack, more or less. What do you think?
[Of course he hasn't.]
no subject
Fair enough. Silly of me to think otherwise.
[ he shrugs. ]
You'll show him. [ he says simply. is he projecting?? ]
no subject
Yeah. Of course I will. I don't really have a choice.
[Either she shows him up, or she gives up on art, and she can't comprehend the latter option.]
But--thanks.
I know stuff with your dad is even more complicated than mine, but. [A shrug.] I think I get it. If you ever want to let off steam.
[She's here for that much, at least.]
no subject
as for his own stuff... he laughs, this time humorlessly. ]
Complicated is one word. [ but he gives her a crooked smile. ] I'd watch what you're offering. I don't let off steam very often, but when I do...
no subject
[Said calmly and firmly, even as she lifts her chin to meet his eyes.]
So you don't have to worry about me. In fact, I'd rather you don't.
no subject
[ well, easier said than done. akechi doesn't really worry about people much, but- as much as he... wishes he didn't care what people think anymore...
oh god does he ]
no subject
Hm... alright then. I'm expecting you to prove it some other time.
[By which she means, let her listen while you let off steam.]
Later, though. It's a mess out here with all of these strings, so I'm going back to the dorm.
no subject
I should do the same. [ he nods, then. ] ...Until next time.
no subject
Good luck getting back without getting caught up again.
Later.
no subject
You as well.
[ he heads off on his way! ]
