[On August 10th, everyone wakes up to find a series of red yarn strung across the entire school. They dangle from the hallway ceilings, from the classroom door frames, even across some of the trees and bleachers outside. The ones that hang within reach feel warm to the touch! They can be pulled down and removed with little consequence.]

[However, it is not the decorative threads you should be worried about. Throughout the week, any two characters who come in close proximity with each other (they do not have to touch!) may suddenly find themselves tied together with the exact same red thread. If you're lucky, it will only link you via your wrists. If you're unlucky, it might bind you via your ankles, or even wrap you both up back-to-back like a pair of captives. Hm! Concerning!!]

[Any time two characters are tied together, a playful voice echoes in their minds: Hehe. Share a secret. . .?]

[To be released, both characters must share a secret with each other! Something that the other one doesn't know! It should be something significant; the playful threads will not let you go unless it is. But the level of significance may vary from something light to something that is not, so ultimately it is player's choice as to what secrets count and which do not!]

[. . . anyway, for anyone who wants to avoid getting caught, the nurse's office and dorm rooms are completely clear! The threads are also fickle; it is possible for two characters to hang out without being tied up together, if you don't want to play with this effect. Otherwise, go forth and mingle with some optional forced bonding!!]

Ah, it's nothing to worry about - only a few nights of sleeplessness. Our current predicament, however...

[He follows without a word of complaint, only blinking slightly before falling in behind her.]

Ah. I've not yet been. But I heard it was recently opened?

I think it opened at the same time as the ordeal Anzen went through.

[his brows raise, interest piqued]

An ordeal? Do you know anything more?

Yes. Evidently they faced off against a train, dogs with human faces, and an unfamiliar ghost. From my understanding, they all sustained injuries, but are faring better now.

All too fortunate that they were able to unlock a way to treat their own injuries. This place grows more strange and dangerous by the day...

Oh - yes, someone explained it to me, too. Like a group of carriages somehow chained together, but moving using a method that's much faster than horses.

[ye oldes gotta stick together and explain newfangled contraptions...]

But I'm relieved they're alright too, of course.

Oh, how fascinating! I wonder how one powers such a lengthy procession.

These advances in technology really are overwhelming to think about... and yet they're spoken of by most everyone as such commonplace things.

How different their worlds must be. And how different things would become if such luxuries were the norm back home! I can scarcely imagine - public school, for common people? Shared communication across the continent!

...It would be nice, wouldn't it? I wonder if you could develop something similar when this is over, with the knowledge gained here.

Alas, I lack even the barest of technical knowledge necessary to understand the magic that powers such innovation. It's always been my weakest field of study...

Schools though... [also a sigh!!!] it'll be a difficult road to convince a whole kingdom that such a hefty investment will be worth it. That alone might take decades to institute.

You think it's possible even if not immediately, then?

Hmm. The hurdles are significant. Speaking of my own home of Faerghus, one must first achieve a lasting period of stability and peace, as well as abundance. If the first priority of the common people is fear of banditry or war, or they are desperate for the coin their children can learn as labourers at first opportunity, then none would consent to letting them pursue education at all.

Another is a problem of authority and reach. Currently, the only organization widespread and organized enough to mount progress towards local education is the Church. That in itself may create an imbalance between the power wielded by the Church and the crown.

And finally, of course, a matter of funding. [...blinks.] Ah! Forgive me, I may have gotten carried away in my thoughts.

[shakes her head at the last sentence after listening carefully to the rest]

I'll never consider thoughtfulness necessary of forgiveness. It's an important thing to contemplate.

Though perhaps a little irrelevant to our current situation.
