[if april showers bring may flowers, then july showers bring. . .?]

Who: everyone!
When: July 31st throughout the day
Where: outside, but also wherever you want to be!
What: a general all-purpose mingle with flavor
Warnings: nada

[Today, for the first time since your arrival, dark and angry clouds gather in the sky above to block out the sun. It is sweltering outside, so when those clouds eventually open up in the early afternoon, showering everyone with cool rain, rolling thunder, and a few flashes of lightning. . . it probably feels good!]

[It seems to be normal rain, for the most part. Look at it from the wrong angle and some if it may seem to be tinted red, like blood. And sometimes, when a drop spatters against the ground, a spider lily suddenly blossoms in its place. The flower dies almost immediately upon springing to life, its petals dissolving into dust that is quickly washed away by the rest of the water]

[dwbi]

[. . . things have been awfully quiet since your arrival. It feels almost a bit like the calm before the storm, doesn't it? Are you still waiting for that other shoe to drop. . .?]

[What else are you up to today!]

[Cawww!

The latest crash of thunder comes with an equally dark and stormy cry...this one from the ink-black bird perched on Cadence's shoulder. Paired with the flowers forming and fading from the falling droplets outside and the gloomy reprieve from the oppressive heat, it just adds to the spooky cliche.

She leans against a front window, arms crossed.
] What an atmosphere, huh? Makes you want to hole up and write all day. [Too bad the ghost stories are writing themselves around them...]

[she's a necromancer with sunflowers painted on her nails, eowyn has no respect for spooky cliches]

I write all day anyways. You have a bird!

Ugh. [Dramatically.] But it's so rewarding when the milieu matches the material! Yes--this is perfect for an all-nighter!

[They probably look a little out of place next to each other, a less extreme version of the gothic-sunshine dichotomy...but it also sounds like they may have something in common, given that Cadence also sounds inclined to write all day and through the night if the occasion strikes.]

Well, you're right. I have a bird. It doesn't bite most of the time.

Oh for sure. With the window open enough for the breeze, but not enough to get your papers wet.

[she's SO EXCITED to see bird, but she knows her manners around animals, especially animals that are oftentimes familiars. she doesn't get to her feet or make any sudden movements towards the bird.]

You didn't find it here, did you?

You could say I "found it again" after our threepenny horror adventure. This one's all me. I guess getting my eardrums blown out came with a reward.

[There's no way of knowing if anyone was "normal" when they woke up in their classroom imprisonment--it'd be easy to spin a tale that was in line with everyone else's. Cadence has talked to enough of the others to get the sense that all of them lost everything from "home."

She'd kept her madness, though. Must be no fixing that, even with all of the outrageous power Mania gives a Sinner.

It's so handsome! What's their name? It's a raven, right?

[The bird puffs out its chest, basking in the praise with body language that looks very similar to its master's.]

Huh. You know, I don't really give them names. If I did, I wonder if it'd get us into trouble here.

[They're just ink and often dissolve into it when their use has expired, so why name darlings you're going to kill? Still, Cadence sounds a little curious about whether the warning to not give away names extends here, too.]

[giggles at the bird, what a cutie!!]

I don't know, I figure it depends how they're attached to you? I don't know what ghosts would do with a normal animal, but I'm not giving away any of my familiars' names.

[Yes, yes...praise the bird... It definitely doesn't reflect right back on its master like the pride feedback loop from hell.]

Haha! That edition was out of print a long time ago. I embrace the extraordinary... So, uh, the bird's not normal, either. [She flicks her hand, which is holding a brush pen from the art room--it's about as close as she could find to a quill. A bit of ink swirls from it.]

But if you cut it, does it not still bleed? Injure it, does it not still feel? [Well, no, but she's embellishing.]
