First Day of School... Again

[There's a new Yakuyoke student who has gotten past waking up in a classroom and reading the warning on the blackboard.

Duly noted. This probably couldn't be the worst first day of school she's ever had...]

[Seemingly tired of talking in circles, she sighs and throws up her hands.]

I'm a witch. Normally, I wouldn't even talk about such things, but circumstances being as they are, it's not worth being cagey about.

[He is not as surprised as he should be, anymore.]

Well, I share a class with a tiefling wizard. You are correct — there is no point in keeping such things secret here. Whether that is a relief or not remains to be seen.

[At least she doesn't have to deal with the shock and dubiousness, but she wouldn't think it would be there if this guy's been at the haunted school longer than her.]

Speaking of wizard... Have they regained any of their abilities after participating in the trials I've heard about? Or rather, to what extent and what is the potency of any power that was returned?

As far as I am aware, she has regained the ability to see in the dark, and her spellbook. No magic, not yet, though if the trend is to continue, it will return to her in time.

[If there is a limit to what they can regain, it is too early and almost impossible to know.]

I take it you are without yours?

Everyone has to start somewhere, don't they?

[The soot sprites make little sounds altogether to get her attention. The mac n'cheese is done and they have two bowls because surely, the other guy's joining in right?

She'll take her bowl and give it a stir, mmmm cheez.]

It wouldn't be the first time I've been powerless, but one has to make do in all sorts of circumstances. Broadly speaking, of course.

[Wow this presumption! He arches a brow at the sprites, but since they are just being kind, he will at least take the bowl. And stir it, too, idly. This cheese..............]

The last time you were powerless, was it due to... interdimensional kidnapping, as well?

[It's gooey, concerningly orange, and well, it's food? Amelia doesn't seem perturbed by it and takes a bite, chewing and then nodding in approval. As for his question...]

In a sense, yes. And before you ask further, I didn't find a way to escape.

[There's a beat. She takes another bite of her macaroni.]

I guess that it was also akin to graduation.

[It's so, so orange.

But even that color cannot keep Holmes' attention away from what she's just said, and he blinks, brow furrowing.]

Nope.

[Well, at least she's blunt about it for better or for worse.]

It's too long and too personal of a story and not applicable here. At least I think so.

[This sort of setting does seem like something the Witch King could conjure up, but would he though? He seems much past this sort of whimsy even if she wouldn't put it past him, but there's nothing in this school that has his mark on it.]

I hardly expect you to go into deeply personal details, but if you've information regarding a very similar situation to the one we know find ourselves in, you should at least share with us the how and the why for comparison.

The problem is, in terms of how, my situation and this one was not the same. As for why, there is hardly any why, just the whims of someone who had more control than I did.

I would like to think that ghosts have more intent and purpose in their nature than what I dealt with.

Do they? We cannot prove it either way. Purpose is relative. Kidnapping someone out of misguided whimsy is also a purpose.

Well... [Gonna eat another bite of mac and then she waves her spoon at him.]

The best advice I gave myself and later my students is that in senseless times, keep on, keeping on.

Also, eat your mac n'cheese.

[No offense to the soot sprites, but Holmes just doesn't like being bossed around for no reason.

But while she's thanking the sprites, he does finally take a bite, and it isn't bad!]

It'd be even better with hot sauce, but I'll take what I can get.
