What: some things happened. the school is suddenly a lot more crowded
Warnings: references to blood and bite injuries, but otherwise, non! unless you bring something to the party yourself

[August 3 stars off. . . weird.]

[The morning bell chimes at 6 a.m., as it usually does! But there appears to be a very thin layer of fog settled against the ground outside. Some of it seeps into the school's hallways, before dissipating in a few wisps of haze. Weird??]

[As the day goes on, you feel like you can hear strange whispers echoing in the air-- a voice, hissing the word miiiiiiiine over and over again. Also weird!]

[And by the time the afternoon hits, you may find yourself running into some very unwanted guests. You've been here two weeks, and this is the first time you're seeing these guys?? Where have they been??]

[By the way, the nurse's office is unlocked!]

[ academic mode: engage. ] Imagine house. Now imagine dollhouse inside of it.

So we're... in a tiny pocket of something huge?

[ tilting her head, trying to make sense of this ]

Not unheard of where I am from! Yet, not necessarily true now.

[ which way are they even running? she's beginning to lose the sense of immediacy, especially now that she's not alone. ]

And what makes you so sure we're in one?

[ she's still keeping pace, while also keeping an eye out for ghosts, but she doesn't seem too worried about it ]

I am not sure! It is only theory. Demiplanes are finite, unfinished; caught between existing realms. It is possible to banish those unwilling into one, and trap them there.

Soo.... because we're trapped, then.

It's not a bad theory, I guess.

[ she guesses. ]

And because there is limit to how far beyond perimeter of school grounds we may traverse. Also, looping rooftop, and shifting rooms.

So those things are common in demiplanes, huh? Good to know.

Often it is so. Being finite in size, "edge" exists to such worlds unlike in any other. You may not travel without precise knowledge of how. Of course, this is not always true, and some demiplanes stretch on so large it is not known their true size.

[ can they stop running? she's stopping running, to catch her breath and adjust her books. hand them back, please! the throbbing pain in her arm... will come back to her in a moment. ]

[ yuffie flips through them a little more, but decides she's done with them and hands them back. there you go ]

Cool.

[ she's mimicking cloud a little, there, but it's genuine. this type of magic's not one she's heard of before ]

How do ya usually get out of a demiplane?

[ she does enjoy having a "rapt" audience. ]

Hmm-m-m-m... My first thinking is: magics tailored to travel amongst planes, or else banish target to their originating plane. That is, same method by which one leaves any plane for another. But Shadowfell, for instance—even this would not be enough. I need to find out more.

[ she's paying attention.... ]

So basically, the magic that got you there, you also need the same type of it to get out?

Yes! Precisely! You do understand.

[ this could come out sounding a bit condescending, and frankly it probably does, even though it's couched in her clear enthusiasm and approval. ]

[ narrows her eyes a little, like she's a bloodhound trained to sniff out condescension, but ultimately lets it go ]

Well, if that's the case... we might be screwed, huh?

[ at least it isn't meant to be condescending? girl just has a negative charisma stat. ]

Just now? Yes, undoubtedly. But I am learned in magics; I may yet find us some way.

[ yuffie is just a kid who hates being talked down to like a kid ]

Like what kinda magic can you do?

I may administer terrible shocks, or puppet another, alter my appearance, influence another's mind, shield against harm, enfeeble and enervate... Oh, it is such varied answer!

[ more sketchy than badass, but that doesn't seem to phase yuffie at all ]

Can ya do that any of that here?

No. [ and this REALLY sours her. she gestures dismissively with her bad arm, flinches. ] I cannot touch threads of Weave, if it even exists here. There is... wall. Between it and I. Horrible feeling.

Yeah, I getchu. I'm missing my ninjutsu right now, and it sucks.

[ she got materia back, but it's not the same!! ]

I loathe to think what is being done with our stolen competencies.

You think someone has the powers we're missing?

[ that hadn't occurred to yuffie ]

If I am thinking of this from fey perspective still, it would follow. Fey steal what is not theirs and use it for whatever nefarious ends. Ghosts... I have never known ghosts to care for names, or their power. This maybe is something new.

So Fey are the jackasses who want names and powers?

[ interesting. yuffie's never heard of those kinds of monsters ]

I haven't known the undead to care about names or.... whatever, either.

Strange, no? And yet... perhaps these ones do.

But... if they are anything like fey, then they should fiercely guard their own name, for this blade cuts in both directions.
