Good evening. Hopefully this isn't a bad time? Enough time has passed that we figured it was a good idea to check in and make proper introductions.

You'll have to forgive the lack of housewarming gift. We're a bit shorthanded at the moment, which I'm sure you can relate to.

[ From behind her peers a perfectly average guy with tousled hair dressed in sky blue slacks. He gives a friendly wave! ]

It wasn't while I was abroad because I haven't been to South America yet. . . but I really like a good Braizlian robusta! It's a bit earthy, but surprisingly low in bitterness compared to other robustas.

[a pause and a thoughtful headtilt]

Do you drink coffee, Botan?

Probably nothing a coffee connoisseur like you would like.

I like lattes and iced coffees. I like trying trendy things, like new flavors or mixes. [That photograph well.]

. . . but I wish this place had something better than the instant crap they serve at the cafeteria.

I feel that way about everything they serve here. I can't believe we're stuck eating this for who knows how long.

I bet that's where they keep all the good stuff.

I guess we're just art buddies now. He wanted to do some drawing with me, so. We bonded over that.

It's nice to bond with people through shared hobbies. Are you an artist, then?

That's right. I mean, I'm still in high school, but... I'm planning on going to art school.

That's impressive. . . is painting your favorite medium? Or do you prefer something else?

[Favorite, huh...]

I do a lot of digital art nowadays, but... I do like painting. And I used to like sculpting a lot, too.

Well. I guess I still do, probably.

[She grimaces.]

I used to be really good at it, but then I... took a break from classes for a little while. It's been kind of tough to remember how.

[It's been kind of tough to go back to doing something she used to excel at, when she's the worst of the class now.]

Not everything is "muscle memory" like people promise it will be, is it?

Practice will help, but. . . it must be hard to make yourself practice when you feel like should be better at it.

And when everyone else has improved so much more than you ever thought they could've. In just two years.

I know I'm not. Not yet.

But I'll keep working at it. Because I'm going to be an artist.

But... really, she's just... glad for any encouragement, even if she knows she shouldn't need it.
