[On Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. on the dot, the student body is awoken not by the bell, but by the sound of meowing echoing over the intercom.

[It's not just the PA system, either. Soft, gentle, and very cute mewls fill the classroom hallways; distant on floors one and two, but much louder on floor three. Intrepid explorers who follow the noise will find that one of the third floor classrooms has been overtaken by a pack of ghostly cats!]

[Each creature is the size of a normal housecat, and has the mannerisms of one. That is, they will attempt to hop into your lap for some prime cuddling time, ears and tails flicking adorably all the while. Their bodies are a pale, ghostly white, and their eyes glow a soft, gentle blue. Although they are translucent, they are still solid to the touch, and they feel just like a normal cat does. Soft fur and everything! Aren't they precious? Aren't they just so stinkin' cute??? DON'T YOU JUST WANT TO SMOOSH THEIR ROUND LI'L KITTEN FACES??]

[So long as characters are kind to the cat spirits, the Nekomata are completely harmless. They just want to play and snuggle!! Although. . .]

[Anyone who touches a cat spirit will find themselves hit with a sudden need for physical contact. This can range from something small (desiring a high five) to something bigger (needing to CUDDLE THE SHIT outta someone). Being surrounded by more than one Nekomata means the compulsion becomes stronger, too! One cat means it can probably be safely ignored, but five?? If you don't HOLD SOMEONE'S HAND RIGHT THIS SECOND you JUST MAY DIE!!]

[Oh, so you don't like cats? No problem! The Nekomata are mischievous creatures, and they WILL leap onto people's backs and shoulders without warning. Being cat spirits, they can also teleport from one place to another, so. . . you can be minding your own business one second, blink, and then be staring into the eyes of a cute cat spirit perched on your lap the next.]

[The Nekomata will be drawn towards members of Anzen more than anyone else per their target lock curse, but they are excited to shower literally anyone in a bit of cute kitty affection, regardless of their homeroom]

[Please let me know if your character is being violent and/or aggressive towards the Nekomata. Otherwise, enjoy some compulsive physical bonding with a cute ghostly flair!]

Curiosity, yes. Of this place, its history, its secrets. Perhaps you are not being here for long, but is it so unthinkable to wish to know more while you are?

[threadling]

[Huff.]

You just talk like all the other scribe witches I know.

Always talkin' about curiosity and learning and saying stuff like "we ask a question, the Void answers" or whatever.

And the learning always has to do with reading every weird old book that's ever existed.

[velluminous]

[ that does sound a bit pretentious when it's said out loud like that, but will she relent? of course not. ]

What is so wrong with that? All kinds of strange and things in old books. Things apocryphal and occult.

[ wiggles her fingers at her in a "wooooo" spooky sort of gesture. but with the straightest face. ]

Besides. It is usually those books left behind to, ah, acquire, after overambitious wizards of days gone are meeting their demise.

[threadling]

[She shifts a bit on her feet.]

I dunno. I guess I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with it. It's not like I hate books.

But witches like that spend so much time in books and questions and their own heads that they miss the real world happening in front of them sometimes. Shouldn't the point of learning stuff be to be able to use it?

[velluminous]

Well, that is exactly right. There is learning to learn, yes, but learning to do—that is my reward. I cannot sit idly. Pah! How boring life!

[threadling]

....what do you wanna do with - whatever you learn about this school and these ghosts, then?

[velluminous]

Apply it to my own home, my own magic... Perhaps these rules here may help mine own to bend. And of course I banish every spirit which has hand in keeping us here.

[threadling]

....what stuff do you wanna bend?

[That seems to have intrigued her.]

[velluminous]

Rules. Why can I not cast certain magic, yet cleric can? Do I not also deserve to Heal? To Speak With Dead? Why can Sorcerers cast without somatic or verbal components, and not I? Why may some spells only influence small space, when there is no reason it cannot cast wider net? I wish to test those limitations.

[threadling]

...only Harmony witches can Heal.

You'd have to have an entirely different type of Spark to be able to do that.

[velluminous]

sidestepping a cat: ] Spark. You mention this before. What is it?

[threadling]

It's really weird hearing this question from someone I know for a fact isn't Sparkless, y'know.

It's. Ugh. How'd the books describe it...it's...

It's a thing. [She taps her own chest.] Inside a witch's heart. It's the energy that lets them see and use magic. You're born with it and it's either Void, Harmony or Vulcan. I dunno if it's like. Considered another kind of organ or just part of the heart, but. That's where it is!

[velluminous]

I have not heard of these things... but it may be similar in spirit to what I am knowing, which is that some of us are more easily able to find, touch, and manipulate our Weave from which all magic is stemmed.

...I see now why this frightened you so, to not feel your Spark.

[threadling]

Yeah well.... [She grumbles under her breath and quickly changes the subject to:] What's a Weave, then?

[velluminous]

Weave is... [ at this, a happy inhale and a happier sigh. she loves this. ] It is everything. Do not think of it as magic, but threads through which magic is woven, as one would take wool and spin it into thread, and finally make garment. To cast magic is to take pieces of our Weave and mold it into certain shape.

[threadling]

[Girl's eyebrows go up a bit as she explains.]

That...

Kind of sounds like the Void...?

[velluminous]

Does it? Perhaps our realms have little bit more overlap after all.

[threadling]

The Void is like.

It's energy that like. Formed the universe? But --

Okay, well. It didn't create life, that was Harmony and...sometimes people treat that like it's everywhere and the Void is something different, it's like. In a different place entirely, some people think it's like. Connected through people's dreams and...?

And then there's the Vulcans who like. People say they forged the planets, but I think that's just like, a story...

[She waves her hands, suddenly flustered.]

I dunno! It's complicated and I haven't had any of my stuff for studying on me in weeks!
