[early morning cat posting]

[On Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. on the dot, the student body is awoken not by the bell, but by the sound of meowing echoing over the intercom.

[It's not just the PA system, either. Soft, gentle, and very cute mewls fill the classroom hallways; distant on floors one and two, but much louder on floor three. Intrepid explorers who follow the noise will find that one of the third floor classrooms has been overtaken by a pack of ghostly cats!]

[Each creature is the size of a normal housecat, and has the mannerisms of one. That is, they will attempt to hop into your lap for some prime cuddling time, ears and tails flicking adorably all the while. Their bodies are a pale, ghostly white, and their eyes glow a soft, gentle blue. Although they are translucent, they are still solid to the touch, and they feel just like a normal cat does. Soft fur and everything! Aren't they precious? Aren't they just so stinkin' cute??? DON'T YOU JUST WANT TO SMOOSH THEIR ROUND LI'L KITTEN FACES??]

[So long as characters are kind to the cat spirits, the Nekomata are completely harmless. They just want to play and snuggle!! Although. . .]

[Anyone who touches a cat spirit will find themselves hit with a sudden need for physical contact. This can range from something small (desiring a high five) to something bigger (needing to CUDDLE THE SHIT outta someone). Being surrounded by more than one Nekomata means the compulsion becomes stronger, too! One cat means it can probably be safely ignored, but five?? If you don't HOLD SOMEONE'S HAND RIGHT THIS SECOND you JUST MAY DIE!!]

[Oh, so you don't like cats? No problem! The Nekomata are mischievous creatures, and they WILL leap onto people's backs and shoulders without warning. Being cat spirits, they can also teleport from one place to another, so. . . you can be minding your own business one second, blink, and then be staring into the eyes of a cute cat spirit perched on your lap the next.]

[The Nekomata will be drawn towards members of Anzen more than anyone else per their target lock curse, but they are excited to shower literally anyone in a bit of cute kitty affection, regardless of their homeroom]

[Please let me know if your character is being violent and/or aggressive towards the Nekomata. Otherwise, enjoy some compulsive physical bonding with a cute ghostly flair!]

[ He snickers again, but he finally takes pity on her and scoops up the cat into his arms. ]

[She sighs in relief, finally straightening up again now that she's no longer trapped in the duty of being a cat perch.]

Gotta say, I did not expect to find anything this cute running around here.

Nor did I. I was a little skeptical of them at first, but...

[ He pats the head of the cat he took off of Suzuha's shoulders. ]

They really do seem harmless.

[The cat at her feet bunts its head against her shin, so with an amused sigh she crouches to resume giving it the scritches it so demands.]

Maybe that luck of ours is turning around.

[That Kai-un streak of bad luck has got to run out some time, right?? Right???]

-ah? You also figured out what our "curse" is, then.

[ He continues to pat the head of the cat in his arms until it squirms out of his hold and up on to his shoulders. ]

[She glances back up his way.]

Yeah, me and Garnet kinda put our heads together about it while we were taking a look around the woods.

I discussed it with that know-it-all guy from Kin-un after we read through that journal in our room.

What were you doing in the woods?

Trying to see if there was a way out of here.

[Take a wild guess how that went!]

...I see. Since you're here, not mauled, and still alive, I can assume you didn't find much out there.

[parttimesoldier]

Nothing but proof that it's just as haunted out there as in here.

[She sighs ]

Seems like it's impossible to get out that way, so we're gonna have to figure something else out.

Not unexpected, but still annoying. Was it just endless forest?

[She shakes her head.]

Nuh-uh. Or at least, not in the way you might think. Furthest out we could get was a point where we spotted a gravestone. But if we tried to get anywhere near the thing, we started feeling... off. Next think you know, you're waking up right back at the edge of the woods.

How... interesting. Unfortunate, but interesting. I suppose that does support my theory that we're in some kind of pocket dimension.

[Frowning, she narrows her eyes.]

Like... something outside of space and time?

[eonsadrift]

Exactly like that, yes. It explains the strangeness in the forest, doesn't it?

[parttimesoldier]

How would that even be possible, though... It'd have to be pretty unstable, disconnected from everything like that, wouldn't it?

[eonsadrift]

My thought is some kind of wayward god created it... although it would take a significant amount of power to sustain something like this, yes. The "ghosts" that haunt us could be considered instabilities, perhaps. It'd depend what it was created for.

[parttimesoldier]

[Gods being involved... well, hell. If ghosts and monsters can, why not?]

Weird as that sounds, it does make a certain kind of sense. Just one more mystery for us to solve out here.

This place has way too many stupid mysteries and barely any information to go off of. What a pain.

[parttimesoldier]

They're really making us work for it, huh.

[She sighs, resuming cat-scritching duty in the hopes it might dispel this feeling of uneasiness.]

I just hope it doesn't take too long to find any of these answers.
