this is fine.jpg

Who: Anzen + visitors (I see you, Sherlock Holmes)
When: Post-game
Where: The Anzen dorm!
What: Definitely not having a nervous breakdown.
Warnings: We're all haunted as fuck so idk maybe some spider mentions.

[ Hey we are all here and some of us are adjusting to the idea of ghosts being real! How's that going? ]

[Quickly quirks his own smile.]

I sell books in London. [LYING LIARS…]

[hey now Puck's wasn't a lie!! . . . technically!!]

Oh! That's kind of neat, actually.

Do you deal in a specific kind of book, or sell anything you can get your hands on?

[Okay, fine, I'll accept it.]

Oh, I'm not fussy about the subject matter or genre. People sell to me old books they no longer want, and I repair the ones that require it, and turn them for a profit. [Making this up on the fly. But he chose a mundane lie for a reason; easier to spin a tale.] But for a fair price, of course.

[. . . mildly amused]

With the emphasis on "fair?" Anyway, that's not surprising; people have to make a living somehow.

[Yeah, he's gotta seem like a fair bookseller. Does Holmes know anything about marking up prices and running a business? N-no. But it's fine. He can fake it until he makes it, or someone is keen enough to poke holes in his story.]

Emphasis on fair. There are swindlers aplenty in the city, and I'll not have anyone think that I throw my lot in with them.

[ONE DAY MAYBE THAT WILL BE BEAN. . . TODAY IS NOT THAT DAY]

That's right! A bookseller's reputation has got to be important for drawing in legitimate business. I don't blame you for wanting to keep things honest!

Quite so.

[SURE, HONEST]

At any rate, what everyone was doing before they arrived here is another line of inquiry I've considered. There has to be something binding us together, something that the ghostsβ€”or whatever it is that's brought us to this schoolβ€”must see as valuable.

[haha, well. . .]

It beats me. I think some people in my group considered that possibility while we were locked in that classroom, but couldn't come up with anything definitive.

[He frowns slightly.]

...Yes. Many of us are so very, very different from each other. Even just among single homerooms. Human, inhuman, magical, not. I refuse to believe that we were chosen strictly at random, however. [Murmurs, mostly to himself-] There has to be something there.

. . . don't give yourself a headache trying to figure it out.

[But awful things with malicious intent often do. Surely!!]

Is there anything else you can think of that might be worth noting, Mr B- Mr Puck? [Ignoring the headache comment.]

[haha. . . ha. . .]

[hackles raise when he hears the "b" but lower again when their visitor course-corrects to Puck]

Not right now, no. I think you covered the most stand-out stuff.

Very well. If you think of anything else of import, be sure to let me know.

[Casually making people report back to him, as one does.]

Actually, I do have one more question.

[personal profile] ordimame 2025-07-25 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[blinks]

Sure. What is it?

Mr Mocha says you enjoy coffee. What’s your favorite sort?
ordimame: (84)

[personal profile] ordimame 2025-07-25 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[!!! immediately perking up]

I like a good robusta. It's bitter and more earthy, but I find I prefer the kick. It can be a bit rough for people not used to coffee, but that's kind of why I like it!
ratiocinations: (πŸ”Ž 015)

[personal profile] ratiocinations 2025-07-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
[me furiously googling if robusta was a thing during victorian times

cursory research says probably, so]

Meaning you prefer to take it with no milk or sugar?
ordimame: (267)

1/2

[personal profile] ordimame 2025-07-26 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
[VERY SERIOUSLY--]

Coffee should be taken black, just like nature intended.

[. . .]
ordimame: (241)

[personal profile] ordimame 2025-07-26 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[. . . primly]

. . . but a little bit of milk is permitted depending on the type of drink.

[Ha! Maybe he really should have taken the moniker of Mr. Bean, he thinks.]

I, too, prefer to take both my tea and coffee without sugar or milk.

[Same hat!]

You're a man of discerning tastes. [and he really did only ask because he was curious, this is unrelated to actual investigating]

[NEVER IN HIS LIFE WOULD HE EVER]

Oh-- thanks. [beaming a little, genuinely pleased] It sounds like you are, too.

[even if he IS a bit nosy]

Here's to hoping the cafeteria understands that. . .

[it won't. all it has is instant]
