This space is different too. I don’t know if you can tell, but it feels like… safer? Like there’s a good ward on this room.

You feel it too, then? Thought I might've just been imagining it, but this is the most relaxed I've been able to feel since waking up here.

Someone who was able to get in here left us our things. I keep my flowerdrake in my purse, which has my ID. Which has my name. But whoever the intercom was doesn’t have our names.

[She hadn't considered that part of it. Her brows are scrunched together thoughtfully as she moves to set the yearbook aside on the coffee table.]

Kinda weird to be getting outside aid like that. Not that I'm gonna say no to any sort of help, but I wonder what's got them being so hands-off about it.

I'm a necromancer. Um, but I only work with animals. It's paleontology.

Guessing that's a type of mage.

[Based on their earlier conversation, because she's pretty sure she hasn't heard that term before.]

So it's animal spirits you've dealt with? Do you talk to them or anything?

[If she can communicate with one type of ghost, maybe she can do the same with these. Maybe.]

It's a mage that works with the dead.

I'm a paleontological necromancer. I use my magic to study extinct creatures like dodos and dragonwolves. There's spirits involved but they're not really, um... It's not like I'm communicating with a specific ghost. I can't call back someone's dead dog and talk to it. Mostly I make skeletons walk around so I can study how they moved.
