Entities and creatures of realms that exist beside the ones of the mortal and physical realms.

Some are of the dead.

But some were born and can only exist in those realms with precious few occurrences outside of them.

This place... I feel like it's a bit of an exception in that area.

It's just a theory. That the barriers between the spiritual realms and the physical ones are very weak here.

It could be because of a horrific event which caused many deaths. Which is why there are so many dead spirits here.

But it could be that it was already a weak barrier here and that caused the many deaths in the first place.

I can't say which it is for certain.

Assuming for the moment that this is the case - the dormitories are protected in some way. The energy here is much more pure. If this protection could cover the entire 'weakened' area of those barriers, then would only non-malevolent, 'living' spirits like the ones you describe come across? Or is the only solution to strengthen the barriers in some way?

I think the first thing is very plausible. Usually if a spirit is violent, there's a reason for it.
