I knew they could thrive without tending, in theory, but...

I'm no gardener, but essentially, plants can survive just fine without intervention. However, intervention can help them thrive far more than they would in the wild.

That's assuming the person intervening knows how best to manage the plant, of course.

There's likely books on the matter in the library.

I haven't confirmed them myself yet, but I do plan to check on the constellations one evening soon.

The most we have to go on so far is this school appears to be similar to the kind more than a few individuals from a place called Japan on Earth would know.

[creeping outside for only the second time since she got here. nothing's dragged him screaming off into the woods despite all that time laying in the grass, so maybe it's okay... at least as long as she can still see the schoolhouse...]

Oh, yeah, I guess they're pretty nice. It's like, camping scenery if you don't look at the school.

[This guy can't really be spotted outside at all most of that first week -- but towards the end of the week, perhaps on the second-to-last or very-last day, he's finally made his way outside. He doesn't venture all that far from the relative familiarity of the school and stays well away from the forest and other more overgrown areas.

Nevertheless, he does spend quite a bit of time just lying on the grass beneath the trees and staring up absentmindedly. It would almost be peaceful were it not for that other dude turning up face down and kind of ominously.]
